Marta Bohn-Meyer leaves the van for a photo op with the blackbird fans who have come to witness the launch. The spurs on her boots will be attached to cables on the ejection seat once she gets in the plane. This safety feature forces the crews' feet back to the chair, to prevent injuries in the event of a bailout. Fortunately, that's only happened once since 1972, and never to a NASA crew.
